CentrePort Canada is North America’s newest 20,000-acre inland port and Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ), offering unique access to tri-modal transportation (road, rail and air). Located next to Winnipeg’s James Armstrong Richardson International Airport, one of Canada’s top cargo airports, CentrePort Canada also provides companies with easy access to major national and international road, rail and sea corridors and gateways..
CentrePort Canada offers businesses a selection of high-quality industrial land and space for sale or lease. Currently there are more than 2,000 acres of land ready for new development and 550,000 square feet of industrial space available in existing warehouse facilities.
CentrePort Canada is conveniently located in the central time zone, with well-established connections to important regional and international markets including eastern and western Canada, the United States, Mexico and Latin America, as well as Europe and Asia.
As an FTZ, CentrePort Canada offers significant tax and cost savings to offer foreign investors and businesses looking for new ways to bring their products to the North American marketplace.
Did you know?
CentrePort Canada is just a one-hour drive north of the Emerson border crossing into the United States – one of the most efficient Canadian crossings, processing about $14 billion in trade in 2009.
CentrePort Canada officially opened its doors in November 2009 and is working to fulfill its mandate under the CentrePort Canada Act which was passed by the Manitoba Legislature in 2008. The legislation established the inland port’s boundaries and created a private-sector led corporation with the authority to develop, market and promote investment in the area.
Transportation and trade have always been vital to the economies of Manitoba and its capital city, Winnipeg. The release of The Mayor’s Trade Council Report (March 2008) ignited a broad-based effort to develop an inland port and further leverage the community’s existing transportation advantages. The corporation’s collaborative beginnings are reflected in the composition of its 15-member board of the directors.
Recent Milestones
- $17 million for water and wastewater servicing for 1,100-acres of prime industrial land within CentrePort Canada. The water and wastewater servicing agreement was announced by the Province of Manitoba and City of Winnipeg and covers a significant area located west of Brookside Boulevard and north and south of Inkster Boulevard
- More than 50 acres sold and under development within Brookside Business Park and Brookside Industrial Park West. Both of these industrial parks are located within the first phase of water and wastewater servicing and will have access to the new expressway, CentrePort Canada Way. Construction continues on CentrePort Canada Way, a $212.5-million four-lane divided expressway that will better connect businesses within the inland port to the Perimeter Highway and into national and international trade and transportation corridors. The project is funded by the provincial and federal governments.
- New project underway to ship high-quality Manitoba agricultural products to Chongqing, China. CentrePort Canada has brought together two Chinese companies (Shanghai Invent Logistic & Technology Co. and Minsheng International Freight Co.), CN Worldwide and Canadian Pacific Logistics Solutions to develop a railway containerization project that would increase the export of high-quality Manitoba agricultural products to China. The project will involve exporting home-grown products such as soybeans, green peas and canola meal to Chongqing, China.
- CentrePort Canada recently announced its intention to develop a common-use rail facility. Discussions are underway with all stakeholders, including three Class 1 rail carriers (Canadian Pacific Railway, Canadian National Railway and Burlington Northern Santa Fe), on a proposal that would benefit CentrePort-based businesses and increase rail volumes. A potential site for the facility has been identified and it could be built on land that will be transferred to CentrePort Canada from the provincial government.
- One-Stop Shop for Foreign Trade Zone Benefits is now open for business and processing applications. CentrePort Canada is the only inland port in the country to offer single-window access to Foreign Trade Zone benefits including duty deferral, sales tax relief and customs bonded warehouse status.
