Arthur Mauro - Chair

Dr. Arthur Mauro, O.C., O.M., Q.C., KSG, LL.D., D.Comm., is Vice-Chair of the founding CentrePort Canada Board of Directors. He was appointed to the Board in December 2008, a nominee of the City of Winnipeg. Currently, Dr. Mauro also serves as Chair of the Winnipeg Airports Authority Board of Directors.

Dr. Mauro was born in Thunder Bay Ontario and attended university in Winnipeg. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Law, and Master of Law degrees. Dr. Mauro was called to the bar in 1953 and practiced law until 1969, specializing in transportation and communication law. He became a senior executive at the Great Northern Capital Corporation in 1969 and became President and CEO of TransAir Limited in 1972. Dr. Mauro began at Investors Group in 1976, was appointed Executive Vice-President in 1977, President and C.O.O. in 1981 and C.E.O. in 1985.

Dr. Mauro was elected Chancellor of the University of Manitoba in 1991 and he is set to begin his position as Chancellor of Lakehead University on January 1, 2010.

In 1987 Dr. Mauro became a Member of the Order of Canada, in 1992 he became an Officer of the Order of Canada and in 2004 he was awarded the Order of Manitoba.

In 2001, a donation made by Dr. Mauro established the Arthur V. Mauro Centre for Peace and Justice at St. Paul’s College at the University of Manitoba. The Centre fosters global peace and justice through research, education, academic exchange, and outreach.
